Pope's book passes 2-million sales figure

Sales of Jesus of Nazareth, the book by Pope Benedict XVI released in April 2007, have broken the 2-million mark, Vatican Radio reports. By the end of 2008, the book will be on sale in 50 countries.

The Vatican Radio announcement-- confirming preliminary figures that were released by the Vatican publishing house in October-- was the second indication of the Pope's ability to attract readers.

His 2nd encyclical, Spe Salvi, generated 1.5 million copies in Italy alone during the first month after its publication-- despite the fact that the text was freely available on the internet.
