Poland sees slide in priestly, religious vocations

There are reports of a decline in the number of vocations to the priesthood and religious life in Poland.

Last year, 786 men began seminary studies, 10% fewer than in 2006.

The number of male religious postulants declined from 797 in 2006 to 708 in the same year.

The number of candidates entering female religious life declined from 468 to 424.

The male religious orders in Poland with the largest number of candidates are the Salesians with 153, the Franciscans with 138, the Jesuits with 116, the Pallotine Fathers, with 110 candidates, and the Capuchins with 100 candidates. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
