Church launches Year of Vocation

The Catholic Church in Ireland is to celebrate a special "Year of Vocation" with various projects focusing on the importance of marriage, family and religious life.

Cardinal Sean Brady made the remarks prior to his first Mass at the titular Church of Saints Cyricus and Julitta in Rome, to which he was assigned by Pope Benedict XVI on his creation as cardinal last November.

"For the 12 months between Vocations Sunday on April 13 to Vocations Sunday on May 3, 2009, various projects and initiatives will be organised to highlight the special dignity of each of the specific vocations - married and family life, ordained priesthood, religious life, and the single life."
