Polish government reviewing grant to Catholic radio

The newspaper Polska reports that Poland’s new minister for the environment, Maciej Nowicki, is making a critical review of a 15-million-zloty ($6 million) European Union grant awarded to the controversial Catholic broadcast outlet Radio Maryja.

Nowicki reportedly hopes to find a reason to demand the radio station refund the entire amount.

Radio Maryja is known for its outspoken editorial stands on political issues.

Prior to 2005 parliamentary elections, the station encouraged listeners to vote for the Law and Justice Party-- which was unseated in October elections by the new Civil Platform majority.

During this year’s parliamentary elections, Radio Maryja endorsed no party. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
