Guns, porn oust priest

Father Tony Pearson's activities in Afghanistan are being scrutinised by ASIO, Australia's domestic intelligence service.

Police discovered this photograph allegedly of Father Pearson in the Muslim country while searching his computer for illegal pornographic images.


He is holding what appears to be an AK-47 rifle. Another picture from Afghanistan found on the computer allegedly shows him holding a rocket launcher. In both pictures the man believed to be Father Pearson is wearing a chupan, a traditional Afghan garment.

The Sunday Herald Sun has also learned that along with the weapons photographs, Father Pearson's office computer -- owned by the church -- allegedly contained several hundred pornographic images of young men.

He has been stood down by pending the outcome of the police church inquiries.

Father Pearson agreed to stand aside after discussions with senior church officials in his Adelaide diocese.
