Catholic diocese creates $6.5 million foundation

The Catholic Diocese of Erie on Wednesday announced the formation of a new charitable foundation.

The Catholic Foundation, a $6.5 million nonprofit, is meant to channel charity dollars from the generous to needy people within the 13 counties of the diocese. Emma Lee McCloskey has been named its executive director.

The diocese also announced the appointment of its first female vice chancellor.

Sister Catherine Manning, former chief executive of Saint Vincent Health System, has been appointed the first female, nonclergy vice chancellor of the diocese.

Vice chancellor ranks fourth highest among officials of the diocese, after chancellor, vicar general and bishop.
