Austrian Catholic dominance fading

About 70% of Austria's 8.3 million people are Catholic, the latest figures show.

In 1946, the country's population was 90% Catholic. Since 1951, the number of atheists in Austria has risen from approximately 265,000 people to more than 960,000.

Most of the self-identified atheists live in the country’s capital, Vienna.

Since the 1950s, the number of regular Sunday Mass-goers has decreased from 2.04 million faithful to just over 750,000.
