Anglican priest appointed director of World Council of Chuches panel

Anglican Church of Canada priest Rev. John Gibaut is the new director of the World Council of Churches' faith and order commission.

Gibaut, a canon serving in the church's Ottawa diocese, takes up his duties on Jan. 2 in Geneva, reports the Anglican Journal on its website www.anglicanjournal.com.

Gibaut is a professor in the faculty of theology at Saint Paul University, a Roman Catholic university in Ottawa, where he specializes in liturgical and historical theology.

He has been a member of the Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue of Canada, the Faith and Witness Commission of the Canadian Council of Churches, the International Commission of the Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue, and the International Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations.

Gibaut earned a doctorate in theology from Trinity College, Toronto.
