Anglican Church of Canada priest Rev. John Gibaut is the new director of the World Council of Churches' faith and order commission.Gibaut, a canon serving in the church's Ottawa diocese, takes up his duties on Jan. 2 in Geneva, reports the Anglican Journal on its website www.anglicanjournal.com.
Gibaut is a professor in the faculty of theology at Saint Paul University, a Roman Catholic university in Ottawa, where he specializes in liturgical and historical theology.
He has been a member of the Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue of Canada, the Faith and Witness Commission of the Canadian Council of Churches, the International Commission of the Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue, and the International Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations.
Gibaut earned a doctorate in theology from Trinity College, Toronto.
