Irish Government move over civil partnership

The Irish Government is to move to recognise same sex partnerships.

The measure, to be enacted before the next election, will draw heavily on the Colley report and a study of the issue by the Law Reform Commission.

It will allow for those in civil unions to register their partnerships, which will then enjoy legal protection.

The Government move comes ahead of a Labour initiative in the Dáil where the party is to re-table its own civil union bill.
