Bishop's book reaches international audiences

After recent publication in Ireland, retired Sydney auxiliary Bishop Geoffrey Robinsons bestselling book on sexual abuse is set for publication in the US and Spain.

Bishop Robinson's bestseller, Confronting Power and Sex in the Catholic Church, Reclaiming the Spirit of Jesus sold more than 8,000 copies since its release in Australia in September.

Publisher Garry Eastman believes the success of the book is due to both to its topicality but also Bishop Robinson's carefully reasoned arguments for church reform.

"There is no doubt that his reputation for integrity has also played a significant part in the book's success," Eastman said.

"I've never known an Australian author to attract such large crowds to his talks."

Bishop Robinson has been invited to the US in mid-2008 by an organization set up as a result of the cover-up of sexual abuse in the Boston Archdiocese.
