Rector admits possessing child pornography

A former Church of Ireland rector has pleaded guilty to possessing images of child pornography at the Circuit Court in Nenagh.

Canon Joseph Condell, who is still living at the Rectory in Roscrea, Co Tipperary, pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing child pornography consisting of still images and movie files stored on his computer on 11 January 2002.

The court was told Mr Condell is now retired from ministry.

The court was told by counsel for the DPP that Mr Condell has automatically been put on the sex offenders register following his guilty plea.

The case was adjourned until 29 April 2008 for the preparation of probation reports and Canon Condell was remanded on continuing bail until then.
