Pope nominates Malta's new Apostolic Nuncio

Archbishop Mgr Tommaso Caputo has been nominated as Apostolic Nuncio for Malta by Pope Benedict XVI.

He will receive his Episcopal consecration from the Pope on the 29th September 2007, in St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City State.

Mgr Tommaso Caputo will take up the post from Archbishop Felix del Blanco Prieto who marked the end of his services as Apostolic Nuncio to Malta last month following his nomination as Elemosiniere to the Pope.

Mgr Caputo was born at Afragola, Naples, Italy on the 17th October 1950. He was ordained to the Priesthood on the 10th April 1974.

On graduating with a doctorate in Canon Law, in 1980 he joined the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See and has served in the Papal Missions in Rwanda, the Philippines and Venezuela, and in the Department of General Affairs in the Secretariat of State.

As from the 19th June 1993 Mgr Caputo has been Head of Protocol in the Secretariat of State. He knows Spanish, English and French.
