Irish bishop to share platform with gay bishop

A Church of Ireland bishop is to share a platform with actively-homosexual bishop Gene Robinson before the Lambeth Conference next year.

The Bishop of Clogher, Dr Michael Jackson, is one of the speakers at the Modern Churchpeople's Union conference alongside the Bishop of New Hampshire Gene Robinson and former US Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, who consecrated Robinson.

Chaired by the Welsh Primate Barry Morgan, the conference next July is entitled "Saving the Soul of Anglicanism".

Bishop Jackson is to speak on the "The ethos and role of Anglicanism in Ireland".

Bishop Jackson's diocese of Clogher is one of the more conservative in the Church of Ireland and his decision to speak for an organisation that believes that 'the Bible sometimes errs' may not be welcomed by clergy and parishioners locally.

In September 2003 the Synod of the Diocese of Clogher overwhelmingly passed a motion reaffirming "the biblical teaching on marriage and sexuality as expressed in the 1998 Lambeth Conference Resolution I.10".
