Zimbabwe: Ncube Saga - Lawyers File Notice of Amendment

LAWYERS representing the man who is suing the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Bulawayo, Archbishop Pius Ncube, for adultery have filed a Notice of Amendment consolidating the claims, it emerged yesterday.

The cleric is facing a $20 billion lawsuit.

Mr Munyaradzi Nzarayapenga of Dube-Banda, Nzarayapenga and Partners, who is representing Mr Onesimus Sibanda, said the lawsuit would now be broken down into $10 billion for loss of consortium and $10 billion for contumelia.

Mr Nzarayapenga -- dismissing a story carried by the Standard newspaper on Sunday, which alleged that the adultery claims have been dropped -- said the claim remains adultery, except that it has now been broken down into specific damages of loss of consortium and contumelia.

Mr Sibanda is accusing the clergyman of having an adulterous relationship with his wife, Mrs Rosemary Sibanda, for the past two years.

Archbishop Ncube, represented by Advocate Nicholas Mathonsi of Coghlan and Welsh, has entered an appearance to defend and has written to Mr Sibanda's lawyers, demanding further particulars which have since been furnished.
