Shoes of fisherman will leave no carbon footprints

Pope Benedict XVI may declare the Roman Catholic Church to be the only "true"one, but he himself appears to be dabbling in the hottest new religion – environmentalism.

The Holy See has announced it will soon become the world's first "carbon neutral"' sovereign state, planting trees in a Hungarian national park to offset the carbon-dioxide emissions and energy use of Vatican City.

In April, the Vatican sponsored a conference on climate change and in June, Vatican officials announced they would cover the papal audience hall adjacent to St. Peter's Basilica with photovoltaic panels that will make it possible to heat, cool and light the building exclusively with solar power.

All well and good, say environmentalists, welcoming the growing involvement of the world's largest church in the movement to protect nature from the effects of human industry.

Now let's sit down and discuss the problem of overpopulation ...
