Boycott World Youth Day (Contribution)

Sydney, Australia's 2008 World Youth Day will have a theme written by Rock Idol Guy Sebastian who has no problem with gay marriages.

This is a role model for Catholic youth? This is the man to be showcased at one of the world's largest gatherings of Catholic young people?

This is the same Guy Sebastian who downplayed Catholic teaching against homosexuality.

The approval of a theme song written by a pro-homosexual rock star is yet another indication of what has been said for years: World Youth Day promotes counterfeit religion foreign to Catholicism. It is first and foremost a celebration of pagan pop culture with a thin Christian veneer.

Mr. Sebastian, who is a member of a Pentecostal Protestant sect is yet another confused individual who does not know the most basic distinctions in Christian morality.

His stance is completely contrary to Catholic teaching and to the natural law. He fails to see that though love is the essential element of Christianity, Our Lord said firmly, "If you love Me, keep my Commandments." Homosexual activity is contrary to the moral law of purity and goodness enshrined in the Commandments, particularly Commandments 6 and 9.

Even more muddleheaded is Australia's World Youth Day coordinator. Auxiliary Bishop Fisher who approved Sebastian's song titled, "Receive the Power." The Vatican's Pontifical Council of the Laity, the Vatican Agency overseeing the Youth Day preparations, also "granted its approval and support" for the theme.

Today we live in a country where people want to live without shame, without guilt, without conscience; yet they practice every degradation and atrocity and then somehow pretend that nothing is wrong.

Catholics should not only boycott World Youth Day in 2008, they should write to the Vatican's Pontifical Council of Laity and to the Congregation of Worship and the Sacraments to protest this mockery of the Catholic faith.

World Youth Day should have a planned Catholic theme aimed at improvement of Catholic youth and the church throughout the World - not just another Woodstock.
