Bishop's brother faces attempted murder charge

The brother of the Catholic Bishop of the diocese of Wagga Wagga, in southern New South Wales, is facing attempted murder charges.

Phillip Hanna is a prominent businessman at Armidale in the state's north.

The brother of Bishop Gerard Hanna was charged after what Armidale Court has been told was a tense business meeting with a local builder, where it is alleged two shots were fired.

The 57-year-old appeared before the court yesterday and did not apply for bail.

He spent the night at the Tamworth Remand Centre, but is expected to apply for bail today.
