Pope May Visit Canada In 2008

Pope Benedict XVI could visit Quebec at a time that coincides with the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in June of 2008.

That announcement was made in Aparecida, Brazil, by the Archbishop of Quebec, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, who said he hoped to receive a response from the Pontiff by the end of the year.

The Eucharistic Congress will bring together thousands of people from around the world to reflect on the theme, “Eucharist: Gift of God for the life of the world.”

Activities at the congress will include catechesis, testimonies, and Masses. “Everybody should be a part of this celebration and join in prayer and reflection,” the cardinal said.

He also said Canadian families would provide hospitality to the poor who want to participate in the Congress and that the archdiocese is seeking financial assistance to help bring families from Africa and South America.
