Kenyan Diocese Ordains 17 New Priests

The Diocese of Machakos ordained 17 priests at a huge open-air Mass last Thursday, presided over by Bishop Martin Kivuva.

Addressing the crowds, Bishop Martin praised the parents of the new priests saying that their good influence had helped to promote their sons' vocations.

Last year, the diocese ordained yet another record of 12 priests, recalled Bishop Kivuva.

He urged the newly ordained priests to commit their lives to the religious teachings and not let down their parents. He also explained that some of the new priests would probably be sent to other dioceses such as Lodwar, Kitale, and Malindi.

"Some of our priests and nuns are serving the church not only here - in the diocese of their origin, but in various parts of Africa and the world at large", he said.

The newly ordained priests have brought the total number of diocesan priests to 142.

"We should praise the Lord Jesus Christ for the bountifulness our diocese is witnessing today in the area of religious vocations among young generation", said Bishop Kivuva.
