Pope Should OK Female Priests (Contribution)

News: Bridget Mary Meehan of Sarasota was ordained as a female Roman Catholic priest and is waiting for papal approval.

Scripture: The apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Issue: Equality among all believers is the normal practice, not promoting racism, sexism or male-only priesthood.

Options: The pope can invoke Canon Law 1024, rejecting women as priests, or he can call for a special dispensation of a 10-year trial period to decide if women priests can:

1. Fill 100,000 posts now vacant due to a decline in males entering the priesthood.

2. Turn the tide created by a few pedophile male priests who tarnished most priests who keep their vows and are not sexual abusers. Can female priests make a big difference?

3. Perhaps make Catholic parents feel safer by caring for their children.

4. Set a new standard to which women may aspire.

The pope is on public record calling for Catholic women to engage in more leadership roles!

Qualified, dedicated, honorable and sanctified women, both married and unmarried (nuns, etc.), stand ready to serve.

If God can use a devout virgin to bring his son into the world, then he can use devout women to bring his message of salvation into the hearts of his people as female priests (servants).

Female priests, of course, would be referred to as "mother" rather than "father." Would that be a welcomed innovation?
