Blood Relic Of Dun Gorg Preca To Be Taken To Vatican

The relic of Blessed Gorg Preca which will be taken to the Vatican for the MUSEUM founder’s canonisation on 3 June will be drops of blood of the priest, contained in a small tube, the Curia Press Office said yesterday.

The relic will be taken to Rome by Archbishop Mgr Pawl Cremona, OP, and brought back by the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech.

The relic will be presented to Pope Benedict XVI during the canonisation ceremony by Fr Pawl Fenech, parish priest of San Gejtanu in Hamrun, where the relic is held.

Fr Fenech will be accompanied by two members of the MUSEUM Christian doctrine society.

The local organising committee seeing to details about the ceremony said the canonisation Mass would start at 10am.

Pilgrims who go to Rome need to be at St Peter’s Square at 8am, when access will be allowed for free to those holding a ticket.

Tickets for taking part in the ceremony may be collected from the Curia’s Liturgy Office in Floriana on 21 and 22 May from 8.30am to 5pm, and on 23, 24, and 25 May from 8.30am to 1pm.

Pilgrims may also collect with their ticket a packet costing Lm3 which will include a cap, a shawl, a badge and a booklet.

The organisers said it was important for Maltese pilgrims to be distinctive, and the cap, shawl and badge were produced purposely to serve this purpose.

Those who booked their stay in Rome for the occasion with a travel agent should obtain their ticket and packet from their agent at the meeting the agency would be holding for them.

The number of Maltese pilgrims who have now registered to be present at the canonisation has gone up to 3,900. Registration will close at the end of this month.

There will be a section in St Peter’s Square reserved purposely for wheelchair-bound persons, who may have a person with them to assist them.

On 2 June at 7pm there will be a prayer vigil for the Maltese pilgrims at the basilica of Sta Maria Maggiore in Rome, while on Monday 4 June at 11am, Archbishop Cremona will lead a concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving at St Peter’s Basilica.

Entrance will be allowed from 10am.
