Free Speech Under Threat In Ireland!!

Over the last few days, the undercurrent of political distaste for journalism and journalists took a rather sinister turn when the neo-Nazi Minister for Injustice and Indifference, Michael Mad Mullah McDowell and his cronies at the SS Headquarters based in Dublin, ordered the arrest of a journalist.

Before anyone reading this thinks that this is a spoof story, I wish to advise that this is indeed a very real story and the Irish newspapers and media in general are headlining this story.

The basis of this story began many years ago when a drug addict namely, Dean Lyons, was falsely charged with the murder of 2 elderly patients in Dublin, despite the protestations of junior Garda officers.

It subsequently transpired that a double murderer by the name of Mark Nash also confessed to the murder of the 2 elderly women, but he was never charged.

It transpired that Mr Lyons was indeed innocent of the crime preferred against him and an historic apology issued from An Garda Síochána stating that indeed Mr Lyons was innocent.

Because of the matters and concerns raised by the Garda handling of the matter, the Government appointed a Senior Counsel, George Birmingham, to investigate the handling of the case.

Mr Birmingham began his investigation in earnest, with a final report due for issuing in September 2006, but a copy of the report found its way into the hands of a journalist, Mr Mick McCaffrey, who made comment and reference to it in a piece he wrote for a newspaper, namely the Evening Herald, on August 10th 2006.

The Birmingham Report Was explosive to say the least and the following points were highlighted:

(1) Five Senior Gardai ignored concerns from Junior officers in relation to the innocence of Dean Lyons, despite his confessions;

(2) Gardai did not inform the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that there were doubts in relation to the credibility of the confession of Dean Lyons;

(3) If the DPP had been made aware of this doubt, the prosecution case against Dean Lyons would never have proceeded, and

(4) The fact that Gardai continued to harass and pursue Dean Lyons despite the confession of Mark Lyons to his having committed the murders.

The Evening Herald were doing that which they have done for years, and is their trade, and for this, without realising it at the time, stole the thunder and spin doctoring of the Minister for Injustice and Indifference, the Mad Mullah McDowell when he was supposed to release a comment on the report in September 2006.

Having been denied this, he then got his SS troops to go on his defensive, promptly arresting Mr McCaffrey, who had gone to the Garda Station voluntarily for an ‘informal chat only’ only to have his fingerprints taken followed by an interrogation by 2 members of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. These are the officers charged with the task of breaking the heavy crime gang circles and indeed were ordered off this work to arrest the journalist for interrogation.

The Mad Mullah tried to state his innocence (snigger snigger) like the child found with hand still in the cookie jar and attempted to deny his involvement or as he put it himself, ‘no hand, act or part in making the complaint to the Gardaí or the Garda investigation leading to yesterdays arrests.’

This however is totally at odds with what officers of the Gardaí said to the Editor of the Evening Herald when they paid him a visit last week, and the words as follows are his;

‘Two detectives came unannounced to the newspaper offices. They said they were looking for a statement from me in relation to the Dean Lyons’ investigation revelations.

They made it very clear that they were here on the instructions of the Department of Justice. They said three or four times that the investigation they were conducting was as a result of a complaint from the Department of Justice.

They appeared to be almost apologetic for the visit but they made it abundantly clear that they were here because of what the Department of Justice had said.’ (unquote)

Personally, this is nothing new in the last few years here in Ireland and I personally believe this is the Mad Mullah trying to stop any more bad press about the Gardai which in turn reflects on him and as this is an election year, all stops are being pulled out. However, he is only serving his own purposes using the organs of the State and feels he should be entitled get away with it but what he forgets is that it is us as taxpayers and citizens of this country who are paying the price.

We have an almost lawless society while he rushes through the Dáil legislation which is then found to be unconstitutional and illegal, giving credence to the fact that he is not in control and neither are the Gardai.

Anyone that criticises either him or the force now seemingly faces being detained and questioned in a style reminiscent of Nazi Germany and then perhaps be blackened thereafter as happened in very recent times with another public persona who had questioned the actions of the Mad Mullah.

Perhaps I am next…who knows…but I will say this…the Irish Constitution guarantees me, you and indeed all citizens of this island the right to speak freely and openly and that is what this journalist was doing and in a democracy that is a very basic but important right.

If the Mad Mullah cannot accept that then he has no right to run for re-election in this democracy without accepting that we, the people have those rights and they must be protected and upheld at all costs. This, Minister does not entail curtailment which in fact shall lead to greater opposition to your being in office so your seat is not all that safe but remember…

You may not like what someone says, but you are meant to defend their right to say it all the same!!

The terms of ‘endearment’ used are all mine and no liability attaches to the Evening Herald for use of such terms, just in case the Mad Mullah decides top have his Secretary General in his Department do his bidding again.
