Papal Visit to Brazil

Benedict XVI's first trip to the Americas will take place in 2007 when he travels to Brazil in May.
The press office of the Archdiocese of Aparecida reported that Vatican representatives have met with local Church and civil authorities in Brazil to discuss a draft agenda for the Pope's visit.

The archdiocese reported that, according to the proposal, the Holy Father will arrive in São Paulo on May 9, landing at the Guarulhos International Airport.

Benedict XVI will remain in São Paulo to meet with young people and celebrate a Mass. The places and times of the events are yet to be determined.
The Holy Father will then travel on May 13 to Aparecida, 170 kilometers (106 miles) from São Paulo, where he will open the 5th General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean, and preside over the opening sessions.
The conference, which will reflect on the theme Disciples and Missionaries of Jesus Christ - that our peoples may have life in Him, will conclude May 31.

Benedict XVI, however, will return to Rome, leaving from Guarulhos airport, after opening the conference.
The draft of the agenda, prepared by the commission, will be presented to Benedict XVI for final approval before releasing.
